Product FAQ
Q:We installed this probe and set the gap to the recommended -9 Vdc. During the first coast-down after startup, the monitor showed a "Gap Voltage High" alarm. The voltage read around -16 Vdc when the machine was near rest. Is the probe faulty?
Q:We have an urgent breakdown and need a replacement 2.0m, 3/8-24 probe. The OEM part is 330101-00-66-20-02-CN, but delivery is 8 weeks. We found a distributor with stock of 330101-00-66-20-02-05. The only difference is the suffix (-05 vs -CN). Can we use it as a direct replacement?
A: This is likely a target material or shaft surface issue, not a probe fault. A very negative voltage (-16 Vdc) indicates the probe is sensing the target as being far away or having poor conductivity. During coast-down, if the shaft has electrical runout (localized variations in conductivity or permeability), the probe will see an alternating "gap" change as the shaft rotates. When the low-conductivity spot passes under the probe, the output mimics a larger gap (more negative voltage). Check the target surface for coatings (paint, plating), corrosion, or material inconsistencies (e.g., a keyway, repair weld).
A: For immediate repair, yes, you can use it as a direct functional and mechanical replacement. The -05 suffix indicates the probe is supplied with CSA, ATEX, and IECEx hazardous area approvals. This often means it has undergone additional certification testing, but its core measurement specifications are identical to the standard (and -CN) probe. The -CN suffix primarily relates to documentation for the Chinese market. The -05 probe will physically fit, electrically perform the same, and likely has equal or greater certification. The main considerations are: 1) Your plant's internal procedures for part number traceability, and 2) If the machine is destined for a final customer in China requiring specific China RoHS documentation, the -05 version may not satisfy that contractual requirement.
